2026-2027 Leadership Transitions Across Lamar CISD

As the 2026-2027 school year approaches, several accomplished leaders will begin new roles across Lamar CISD. Their experience, dedication to education, and commitment to building strong school communities will help continue the district's tradition of excellence while supporting the success of students, staff, and families.

Principal 

Wessendorff Middle School 

For Vanessa McClain, leading Wessendorff Middle School is both a professional milestone and an opportunity to continue serving the district that shaped her. A proud graduate of Terry High School and a Lamar CISD educator for more than 20 years, Mrs. McClain has served in various roles including paraprofessional, classroom teacher, and campus administrator. Most recently, she was assistant principal at Lamar Consolidated High School, where she helped foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and student success. Mrs. McClain is committed to building strong relationships with students, staff, and families while creating a learning environment where every student is supported and empowered to thrive.

Principal 

Lamar Junior High School 

Dr. Lea Mishlan brings more than 20 years of educational leadership to her new role as principal of Lamar Junior High School. Most recently serving as principal of Wessendorff Middle School. She has dedicated her career to fostering academic excellence, positive school culture, and meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families. Her experience includes various roles such as a teacher, school counselor, assistant principal, dean of instruction, and principal across other school districts. Dr. Mishlan holds both a bachelor's and master's degree from the University of South Florida and a doctorate in Ethical Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. She is committed to building on Lamar Junior High's strong traditions while partnering with families and staff to support every student's success.

Principal 

George Junior High School 

Rachel Patterson steps into her new role as principal of George Junior High School with 21 years of experience in public education and a passion for serving students through meaningful relationships and high expectations. During her eight years with Lamar CISD, she has served as teacher, district literacy coach, and assistant principal. Most recently, she was the principal of Hutchison Elementary School. Ms. Patterson earned her bachelor's degree from Texas Southern University and her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University. She is committed to fostering a positive school culture while partnering with students, staff, families, and the community to build on George Junior High's continued success.

Principal 

Hutchison Elementary School 

Crystel Ware begins her new role as principal of Hutchison Elementary School with a passion for building strong relationships and creating learning environments where every child feels seen, supported, and challenged to grow. With 20 years of experience in education, including 11 years as a classroom teacher and nine years as an instructional coach, Mrs. Ware brings a collaborative approach to leadership. She most recently served as assistant principal at Hubenak Elementary School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Duke University and her master's degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston–Victoria. Mrs. Ware is committed to partnering with students, staff, and families to create a positive school community where every child can thrive.
